A Report on the Sensitization Program Organized by Project for Human Development entitled “The Negative Effects of the use of the Internet on the Young held at Fountain Heights Secondary School, Adelabu, Surulere on Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Prior to February 26, 2020, preparations have been going on to make sure that The Sensitization Program was a huge success. We began by writing letters to The Principal of Fountain Heights Secondary School, Adelabu so as to secure a venue for the program, then to The First Lady of Lagos State Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Honourable Desmond Elliot; Member, Lagos State House of Assembly, Surulere Constituency 1, as special guests of honors, The Tutor General whose approval we needed so as to invite some Government Secondary Schools around, and to all the invited schools that benefited
from the great event.

Great follow ups on the letters were made and the Principal of Fountain Heights Secondary School, Adelabu approved our letter to use their school hall as the venue for the program. We also got confirmed that Her Excellency, the First Lady of Lagos State will be highly represented by the wife of the Executive Chairman of Oshodi Isolo LGA Mrs Sara Muse_Ariyoh and Hon. Desmond Elliot will be highly represented by his Manager Mrs Toro. The other schools we invited were Lagos Progressive Senior and Junior High School, Community Senior and Junior High School and Faz-l-Omar Senior High School approved their coming which they all did.

The four (4) schools were present with their teachers and a total number of 120 students in attendance. The program kicked off at 9am with an opening prayer followed by a welcome address all led by Ms Chinemerem Adibe. Her Excellency’s representative was made welcome in the person of Mrs Sarah_Muse Ariyoh to the high table alongside the representative of the Hon. Desmond Elliot and the Chairperson of the program Mrs Nwaje Rose.

The chairperson of the program in the person of Mrs Nwaje Rose gave a welcome address. Afterwards, we had the first speaker of the day Ms Omotoyosi Omolade Fadayomi who spoke on the topic of the event “The Negative Effects of the use of Internet on the Young” did justice to the topic as she took time to explain the different Negative Effects of the use of the internet on the young which includes but not limited to; The Psychological effects, Cyber Bullying/ Cyber Harassment, Online Gambling etc.

Then there was an address by Her Excellency’s representative where she equally did justice to the topic of the program and advised the students to desist from the use of the internet wrongly. Then the Director General of Project for Human Development (PHD) in the person of Engr. Jerry Okwuosa was called upon to address the audience.

Then after his address, there was a presentation by Faz-l-Omar High School Students. The students had a discussion on the Negative Effects of the use of the Internet on the young and advised their colleagues to desist from the wrong use of the internet.

The chairperson also gave a speech on the topic. Another speaker Olaniyi Alaka spoke on the negative effects of pre-marital sex which is part of the fundamental teachings of Project for Human Development.

Finally, the last speaker Mrs Oluwafunmilayo Emmenual took the general question and answer section. The program ended by 2pm with a closing prayer and it was recorded a huge success.
